Domestic violence is characterized as a significant societal concern because it transcends individual cases and impacts communities and societies at large. This perspective recognizes that domestic violence is not just a private or personal issue limited to a household but rather a widespread social problem that affects the well-being of individuals and families, contributes to broader social issues, and requires collective intervention and response.

Addressing domestic violence as a societal concern emphasizes the need for public awareness, prevention strategies, and community support systems. It involves understanding the various social and cultural factors that contribute to the prevalence of domestic violence, as well as the importance of engaging communities in discussions about power dynamics, gender inequality, and available resources for victims.

While other perspectives, such as viewing it as a private matter, a personal psychological issue, or a legal problem, may capture certain elements of domestic violence, they do not fully encompass the complexity and wide-reaching impacts of the issue as a societal concern. Recognizing it in this way ensures that efforts to mitigate and eliminate domestic violence are comprehensive and inclusive of societal change.
